The Clays Mill Veterinary Clinic welcomes you to our website. Since 1968, Dr. Robert C. Lynch and his staff have been here to serve the community of Lexington and central Kentucky by providing excellent healthcare for your pets. Dr. Craig J. Blair, with CMVC since 1995, and Dr. Melanie Blair, with CMVC since 1999, are now partnered with Dr. Lynch and are committed to continuing the tradition that Dr. Lynch has established.

An American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited facility since 1998, we offer full-service preventive medical treatment and consultation, routine check-ups, emergency treatment, after hours service, surgical procedures, X-rays, laboratory analysis and dental procedures for dogs, cats, birds, exotic pets and wildlife.

Our doctors are members of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association and the Central Kentucky Small Animal Veterinary Association. To provide you with the best medical care for your pet, the veterinarians and staff attend continuing education classes and hands-on wet labs throughout the year.

We also offer a full service boarding facility and have an independent groomer on sight for your convenience. We are proud of our establishment and our relationship with the community.

We are proud to announce that we have just passed the re-certification process for the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Certification by AAHA ensures that a practice is maintaining the highest standards in patient care and medical/surgical procedures. We are one of only four AAHA certified veterinary practices in central Kentucky and have been certified since 1998.

If you're new to CMVC you'll notice that our VACCINATION PROTOCOLS for dogs and cats are quite a bit different than most other veterinary practices in central Kentucky. Our vaccination strategies are based on the most current recommendations from the AMERICAN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION and the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF FELINE PRACTITIONERS. Briefly, these involve longer intervals between certain vaccine boosters, eliminating vaccines that are not essential and tailoring the vaccination process to meet each individual patient's unique requirements based on age, health status and risk of exposure to various diseases. We have heard from several concerned pet owners over the past few months regarding the possibility of dogs choking or developing obstructions from "GREENIES" brand dental treats. This was a concern in the past, but the actual number of cases is far fewer than what has been reported in the news and online. One reputable researcher has confirmed 25 reports of obstruction due to Greenies since 2003. Taking into account that Greenies are thought to be the most popular dog treat sold in the U.S. with over 300 million purchased recently, this is roughly the same rate that is seen with other treats such as rawhides, pigs ears and bones. Here at CMVC, Greenies have been a big hit with our canine patients over the past several of years and we have not seen or heard of any problems with our patients or our own pets or with those of other local veterinarians. In response to these concerns, the manufacturer has recently reformulated the entire line of Greenies treats to make them softer, more digestible and more effective at removing tartar and eliminating bad breath. We have Greenies available in a variety of sizes for dogs and cats. Home dental care for dogs and cats can be quite challenging so it's nice to have a proven treat available for them.

No doubt you've noticed a new log in button on our homepage. We are excited to introduce Pet Portals to our clients. Pet Portals is a secure online database that can be accessed by registered clients through our website. Through this database you will be able to access your pets' vaccination and routine health care records, request appointments and medication refills and submit questions to the doctors or staff. Pet owners will also have access to a huge library of pet care articles. Once registered you will also receive e-mail reminders for routine care and even be able to set up customized e-mail reminders to help you remember when to give heartworm prevention or when to call for medication refills. We are in the process of setting up the system right now and hope to launch it in the next couple of weeks. Look for further details here or in the clinic and make sure that we have your current e-mail address if you wish to utilize this great new tool.

New research shows that HEARTWORMS pose a greater risk to CATS, even those kept exclusively indoors, than do either Feline Leukemia or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. This new information serves to further bolster our longstanding recommendation that all dogs, cats and ferrets be on year round heartworm prevention. VIN, the Veterinary Information Network, is an online community of over 14,000 veterinary specialists and general practitioners from around the world. CMVC has been a member of VIN since 1998. This service gives us instant access to information and procedures that used to require us to refer the patient and owner to a specialist located hours away.

www.VeterinaryPartner.com is another service of VIN. This website is available to you, the pet owner, 24 hours a day and contains information and articles on first aid, diseases, treatment options, medications, nutrition, problem behaviors and much more. These articles are written by experts and endorsed by CMVC and the specialists of VIN.
